Batalia de la Kursk a fost cel mai important pas pe calea victoriei poporului nostru in Marele Razboi Patriotic. Acesta a consolidat initiativa strategica in mainile comandamentului Armatei Rosii si a subminat decisiv puterea Germaniei fasciste. Dupa infrangerea sa din iulie-august 1943, Wehrmachtul nu a mai fost capabila sa efectueze o alta operatiune ofensiva strategica pe Frontul de Est. Unul dintre momentele cheie din prima etapa a bataliei de la Kursk a fost victoria trupelor noastre in zona micii statii de cale ferata Prokhorovka, care a intrat in istorie ca lupta de tancuri de la Prokhorovka. Din pacate, cum este cazul majoritatii bataliilor si confruntarilor din razboiul trecut, cititorul rus stie despre evenimentele de la Prokhorovka numai din literatura fundamentala "curatata" si "lustruita", in esenta superficiala. Nu este surprinzator faptul ca timp de mai bine de 50 de ani de la lupta de tancuri de la Prokhorovka, istoricii continua sa se certe despre o serie de intrebari importante: De exemplu, cand si pe ce teren a avut loc aceasta ciocnire de tancuri? Cate tancuri si tunuri autopropulsate au luat parte la ea? Care au fost pierderile de ambele parti? Nu exista niciun raspuns clar la intrebarea principala: "Cine a castigat batalia de la Prokhorovka?" O serie de savanti straini continua sa sustina ca Corpul II SS Panzer, care se opunea Frontului Voronej, a iesit victorios. Este imposibil de raspuns la aceste intrebari fara a analiza sursele primare - documentele de lupta generate de formatiunile partilor opuse. - Valeriy Zamulin, fragment din Introducere
